EMPOWERING TEACHERS AND EDUCATORS BY PROMOTING RESILIENCE IN THEM

Introduction and Description

In contemporary educational environments, teachers and school staff are increasingly required to navigate complex demands: rapid pedagogical changes, heightened emotional labour, diverse student needs, and rising expectations from families, institutions and society. Such pressures make resilience—not as a fixed personal trait but as a dynamic, learnable capacity—an essential competence for all educators. Strengthening teacher resilience is now recognised as a key element in promoting staff wellbeing, enhancing professional longevity, and fostering positive school cultures where both teachers and learners can thrive.

This Erasmus+-aligned training course offers a rigorous and holistic exploration of resilience, integrating insights from educational psychology, positive psychology, social–emotional learning and wellbeing research. Participants examine the multidimensional nature of resilience—emotional, cognitive, physical and social—and explore how these dimensions interact with the everyday realities of school life. Through experiential workshops, reflective practices, structured activity banks, case analyses and, in the 5-day version, nature-based learning opportunities, educators develop concrete strategies to strengthen their own wellbeing and to support learners and colleagues in building sustainable resilience.

The course provides tools for reframing challenges, managing stress, fostering emotional regulation, maintaining healthy boundaries, and cultivating professional relationships grounded in trust and collaboration. Participants also learn how to design context-responsive resilience programmes and personalised action plans suitable for their schools or organisations. The extended 10-day version offers additional depth, including the analysis of a full resilience curriculum, extensive practice with resilience-building activities, and guided coaching techniques for supporting peers. The condensed 5-day programme offers a focused, practice-oriented experience enriched by nature-based and embodied approaches to wellbeing.

By the end of the course, participants will have developed a clear understanding of the importance of resilience in modern education and will be equipped with practical methods for embedding resilience-enhancing practices within teaching, school leadership and whole-school development plans. This makes the course highly relevant for Erasmus+ Key Action 1 projects aiming to improve teacher wellbeing, reduce burnout, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote inclusive, supportive and future-ready learning environments.
