LEARN ENGLISH THE FUN WAY: BEGINNER ENGLISH FOR TEACHERS (A0–A1)
Introduction and Description
This is a structured professional development course designed for teachers and school staff with little or no prior knowledge of English (A0–A1). The course addresses a growing need within European education systems: enabling educators to acquire basic English language competence in order to participate more actively in international cooperation, Erasmus+ mobility projects, multicultural school environments, and cross-border professional exchange.
Aligned with the Erasmus+ priorities of inclusion, participation, and quality education, the course supports educators who may have been previously excluded from international opportunities due to limited language skills. By focusing on accessibility, confidence-building, and practical communication, the programme promotes equal access to mobility and lifelong learning, contributing to a more inclusive European Education Area.
The course adopts a communicative and learner-centred approach, prioritising meaningful language use over abstract grammatical knowledge. Participants develop essential vocabulary, basic grammatical structures, and core communicative functions required for everyday interaction, school-related situations, and simple professional exchanges. Listening and speaking skills are foregrounded, while reading and writing are introduced gradually and supportively, ensuring balanced and realistic progress for beginner learners.
Learning content is organised around familiar and relevant themes such as personal information, classroom language, daily routines, leisure activities, food, travel, and basic professional communication. These themes are closely connected to teachers’ real-life needs and Erasmus+ mobility contexts, allowing participants to immediately apply new language skills in authentic situations. Through games, role-plays, collaborative tasks, visual support, and movement-based activities, participants experience English as a practical tool for communication rather than an academic barrier.
A strong emphasis is placed on well-being and motivation, recognising that many adult learners bring anxiety or negative past experiences related to language learning. The course creates a safe and supportive learning environment where making mistakes is understood as a natural and valuable part of the learning process. This approach strengthens participants’ self-confidence and encourages continued engagement with language learning beyond the course.
The course is available in both 5-day (25-hour) and 10-day (50-hour) formats, allowing institutions and participants to choose an intensity level that best fits their professional development needs. By the end of the course, participants are able to introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions, understand slow and clear spoken English, and take part in short, structured conversations related to everyday life, school settings, and European mobility activities. The course contributes to teachers’ professional development, linguistic inclusion, and readiness to participate more actively in European cooperation and Erasmus+ projects.
