LEADERHIP AND INITIATIVE -

THE CORNER STONES OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

IN THE CLASSROOM

Introduction and Description

Developing learners’ capacity to take initiative, lead collaboratively, and act creatively is central to the mission of contemporary education. Entrepreneurship—understood not only as business creation but as a broader competence involving agency, problem-solving, resilience, and innovation—is recognised by the European Commission as one of the key competences for lifelong learning. Schools, therefore, play a crucial role in cultivating environments where students learn to lead, make decisions, take responsibility, and participate actively in shaping their own learning journeys. This course supports teachers and school staff in developing the pedagogical, psychological, and interpersonal skills required to nurture these behaviours in their learners.

The programme integrates research-based insights from motivation psychology, leadership theory, and coaching approaches with hands-on methodologies that can be readily implemented in classrooms and school teams. Participants explore how motivation is formed, how leadership behaviours develop, and how structured opportunities for initiative can transform student engagement and achievement. Through practical workshops, micro-leadership challenges, collaborative tasks, and reflective discussions, educators learn how to create interactive learning environments that empower students to take ownership of their learning and to develop the confidence, curiosity, and adaptability needed for the 21st century.

Both the 5-day condensed programme and the 10-day extended version offer deep, practice-oriented learning aligned with the EntreComp framework and the priorities of Erasmus+ projects, including fostering key competences, promoting inclusive and learner-centred pedagogies, and strengthening teacher professional development across Europe. By the end of the course, participants will have strengthened their own leadership capacities, expanded their repertoire of motivational and coaching techniques, and developed concrete plans to enhance initiative and entrepreneurial thinking within their schools and organisations. This training is suitable for teachers of all subjects and levels, school leaders, adult educators, and all professionals committed to equipping learners with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly complex world.
