VIDEO MAKING FOR TEACHERS

Film Reels
Introduction and Description

In an era where communication, learning and participation increasingly unfold through visual and digital media, the capacity to design and use educational video has become a core professional competence for teachers and school staff. This course offers an academically grounded and highly practical introduction to video making as a transformative pedagogical tool that enhances learner engagement, deepens conceptual understanding and supports inclusive, student-centred learning environments. It responds to the growing need within European schools to cultivate multimodal literacy, develop innovative teaching strategies and strengthen digital competence in alignment with EU educational priorities.

Across either the 5-day or extended 10-day format, participants explore a range of video genres—photo stories, drama-based videos, inquiry-driven documentaries and collaborative digital productions—situating each within contemporary research on cognitive multimedia learning, narrative construction, creativity and inquiry-based pedagogy. The course highlights how video can be used not merely as a resource but as a dynamic learning process that encourages exploration, critical thinking, creativity and authentic communication. Through hands-on workshops, teachers learn to storyboard, script, film, edit and evaluate educational videos while reflecting on issues of accessibility, ethical media use, learner diversity and responsible online collaboration.

Designed to serve both classroom practitioners and school leaders, the programme supports organisations in strengthening their digital transformation strategies and enhancing their capacity for innovation, communication and community engagement. It equips educators with competences that are increasingly essential for cross-border collaboration, particularly within Erasmus+ projects where video serves as a key medium for dissemination, storytelling and intercultural exchange. By course end, participants will have produced a portfolio of classroom-ready videos and developed a clear vision of how video-based learning can enrich their school’s pedagogical culture and foster meaningful European cooperation.
