Introduction and Description

Digital Tools and Creative Methods for Climate Education is a structured teacher-training course designed to support educators in addressing climate change through innovative, creative and digitally enhanced pedagogical approaches. Aligned with key priorities of the Erasmus+, the course promotes sustainability, digital transformation, inclusion and active citizenship by equipping teachers with practical tools and methodologies for engaging learners in meaningful climate education.

Contemporary climate education requires more than the transmission of scientific facts. Learners must be supported in developing critical thinking, media literacy, emotional awareness and a sense of responsibility for sustainable futures. This course responds to these needs by integrating digital storytelling, creative media production and arts-based methodologies into a coherent pedagogical framework suitable for primary, secondary, vocational and adult education contexts. Participants explore how storytelling, visual and audio media, and creative expression can translate complex climate issues into accessible, engaging and learner-centred educational experiences.

Throughout the programme, educators critically examine the role of media and narratives in shaping public understanding of climate change, with particular attention to misinformation, ethical communication and responsible digital participation. Participants develop practical competences in designing digital stories, multimedia projects and creative classroom activities that foster student voice, collaboration and agency. The course emphasises cross-curricular implementation, enabling teachers to embed climate education across subjects such as languages, arts, humanities, sciences and citizenship education.

Strong emphasis is placed on inclusive and learner-centred learning design, in line with Erasmus+ priorities on social inclusion and equity. Participants explore strategies for differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning and emotionally safe climate education, addressing issues such as climate anxiety while promoting hope, resilience and active engagement. Arts-based and participatory methods support diverse learners and encourage meaningful expression, reflection and dialogue.

The course also supports innovation in teaching and learning by promoting project-based and experiential approaches linked to real-world sustainability challenges. Participants design transferable lesson plans, creative digital outputs and school-level projects that strengthen environmental awareness and active citizenship within their educational communities.

Both 5-day intensive and 10-day comprehensive programmes are available, allowing flexibility to meet institutional goals and participant needs within Erasmus+ mobility projects. Upon completion, participants leave with concrete pedagogical resources, enhanced professional competences and a clear action plan for integrating creative, digital and sustainability-focused approaches into their everyday educational practice.
