INCLUSIVE ASSESSMENT AND FEEDBACK (FAIR, FLEXIBLE, AND LEARNER-CENTRED EVALUATION FOR DIVERSE LEARNERS)

inclusive_assessment.jpg
Introduction and Description

In increasingly diverse European classrooms, assessment plays a decisive role not only in measuring learning outcomes, but also in shaping learners’ motivation, self-confidence, and sense of belonging. However, traditional assessment models—often standardised, summative, and performance-driven—can unintentionally create barriers for learners with diverse abilities, linguistic backgrounds, socio-emotional needs, or different learning trajectories. The course Inclusive Assessment and Feedback: Fair, Flexible, and Learner-Centred Evaluation for Diverse Learners responds to this challenge by supporting educators in rethinking assessment as a tool for equity, learning, and inclusion.

This structured teacher-training course is fully aligned with the priorities of Erasmus+, particularly those related to inclusion and diversity, quality education, digital transformation, and learner well-being. It offers educators a comprehensive, research-informed framework for designing assessment and feedback practices that recognise learner variability, value individual progress, and promote active learner engagement. The course is available in both 5-day (25-hour) and 10-day (50-hour) formats, allowing institutions and participants to choose an intensity level that best fits their professional development needs.

Throughout the programme, participants explore contemporary approaches to inclusive assessment grounded in formative assessment theory, differentiation, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and inclusive pedagogy. Particular emphasis is placed on formative and alternative assessment methods that move beyond grades and tests to capture learning through projects, portfolios, performances, and authentic tasks. Participants learn how to design fair and flexible assessment criteria, provide meaningful and strengths-based feedback, and involve learners actively through self-assessment, peer feedback, and goal-setting practices.

The course also addresses ethical and practical questions related to assessment accommodations and adjustments, ensuring fairness without lowering expectations. Educators develop strategies for assessing learners with SEND, multilingual learners, and students at risk of exclusion, while maintaining transparency and high academic standards. Digital tools for inclusive assessment and feedback are explored as key enablers of accessibility, multimodality, and learner agency, in line with Erasmus+ priorities on digital competence and innovation in education.

Through interactive workshops, collaborative design tasks, reflective practice, and peer learning, participants develop assessment and feedback tools that can be directly transferred to their classroom and school contexts. By the end of the course, participants are equipped to contribute to more inclusive assessment cultures at classroom and whole-school level—cultures that support equity, recognise diversity as a strength, and enhance the quality of teaching and learning across Europe.

  • Design inclusive feedback strategies that are strengths-based, dialogic, and actionable.

  • Support learners’ feedback literacy, self-assessment, and metacognitive skills.

5. Accommodations, Equity, and Ethical Assessment

  • Distinguish between accommodations and modifications in assessment.

  • Implement fair assessment adjustments for learners with SEND, multilingual backgrounds, or socio-emotional needs.

6. Learner Agency and Whole-School Alignment

  • Promote student voice and co-assessment practices.

  • Contribute to coherent, inclusive assessment cultures at classroom and school level.

Preparation

After registration participants will receive pre-course questionnaire which will be used by the trainer to learn about participants’ teaching backgrounds and to assess their exact needs. Before the beginning of the course a basic reading list will be suggested to participants to prepare for the training. Participants will also be asked to prepare a presentation about themselves, their professional context and their culture. The presentation will be presented on the first day of the course to facilitate networking opportunities. Participants will receive information about the country they are going to visit in order to prepare them for their cultural experience.

Follow up

After the course participants will be asked to share what they have learned with the rest of the staff in their schools. Further books and articles to deepen the topic and contacts with some other practitioners all over Europe and in the world will be suggested by the trainer. The methods shared and explored and the bibliography given will allow the participants to complete and improve their educational path.
